Endangered species surveys
Platt Environmental holds federal permits to survey for Threatened and Endangered species as well as assessing habitats for their use. We specialize in desert habitats and avian issues and also environmental impact permitting and compliance. The restoration of damaged habitats is often a requirement of the permitting process. We have successfully designed, implemented, and monitored the creation of desert and riparian habitats.
Aerial surveys
We have conducted fixed wing and helicopter surveys for nesting and wintering raptors for over 30 years. These have included most Western states, the Mississippi River and Arctic Canada
Engineering partnerships
In partnership with International engineering firms such as URS, HDR and Clean Line Energy transmission, we have worked with companies from design, through permitting and construction of major projects. These included roads, transmission lines, pipelines, planned communities, and renewable energy facilities.
Wind and Solar Utility Facilities
The proper siting of wind turbines and solar farms is the key to their successful permitting. We have been involved from the conceptual design to micro-siting of turbines. The adage of “it being easier to stay out of trouble than get out of trouble,” holds true.
Permitting for Linear Projects
Highway, pipeline, transmission line, and buried cable projects have a unique set of compliance issues. They often pass through a variety of habitats and involve multiple land owners. Often they unavoidably impact BLM land or Waters of the US thus triggering a federal nexus.
Site evaluations
Site evaluations for compliance with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Endangered Species Act, and State Certificates of Environmental Compatibility. I have conducted numerous site evaluations regarding CEQA, NEPA, jurisdictional issues with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the Clean Water Act. We have worked extensively with wind energy developers as they seek compliance with the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act.
Worker environmental awareness training and construction monitoring
When working within habitats occupied by listed species, it is important to train and monitor the work force and equipment operators. We provide on-site services. Our philosophy is that we are not policemen but rather guard rails, helping the project stay within prescribed boundaries.
Biological assessments
Large and small projects impact natural habitats and water resources and they require environmental permits from State and Federal environmental agencies. We prepare Biological Assessments, Environmental Assessments, Section 7 Consultations for endangered species, CLOMR/LOMR compliance, as well as state specific documentation.
