China 2019

The Story:
Bobby Huang had another wedding in Beijing, China. We thought it would be a great way to see China. Bobby took care of all the planning, tours, etc. It was stress free!!
We drove out to the Cabin in MT to leave the girls with my parents for Thanksgiving. Ethan got to go to China with us. He even had his own passport and visa. We stayed the night and got up the next morning to fly out of Spokane. Of course, I got pulled over as soon as I crossed into the Idaho border. He let me off with a warning. We flew to Seattle and waited for 3 hours for our Beijing flight. They offered $3000 for the pair of us to take another flight the next day because they were over booked. I said LET’S DO IT!! Sarah didn’t want to miss a day in China… Still regretting that decision.
Ethan was so awesome for the 13-hour flight over to China. He liked being held the whole time and the loud noise of the plane. I will never forget getting into the minibus to ride to our hotel. He sat on Sarah’s lap with the most amazed look on his while he watched the cars. He didn’t have to be in a car seat and could watch out the window. He was mesmerized.
During our time in Beijing we did the following:
- Olympic Grounds
- Summer Palace
- Temple of Heaven
- Tiananmen Square & National Museum
- And our favorite The Great Wall
On the morning of the wedding we had our first free time. Sarah and I went to the Beijing zoo to see the pandas. I had taken the subway a few times to pick out a custom suit and check the fitting. So, we took the taxi to the zoo and the subway back to hotel. Ethan experienced his first snow the night before. The Panda was out playing in the snow and was fun to watch. We enjoyed the zoo.
The wedding was fun to experience, I gave a groomsman speech at the wedding which was fun. Ethan was a celebrity everywhere he went. The people LOVED him. They would stand around him and take pictures. We had to fully cover him up with blankets to take a nap in his stroller. We were always bundled up because it was about mid 30’s most of the time.
One morning, I went down to the pool with Ethan to let Sarah sleep. We decided to go for a swim. They didn’t like Ethan in the pool and were yelling at me in Chinese to get out. It was funny. I played the dumb American we didn’t know. They were nice on the way out.
One of the main souvenirs we brought home was a jade dragon. I ended up getting a nice custom suit as well.
It was a super fun trip and a wonderful experience to spend time with Sarah and Easy. On the way home we flew back to Spokane to get the girls. My parents met us in Spokane because there was a bad snowstorm coming and they didn’t want us driving in it.
Looking back on the trip we timed it perfectly. The Caronavirus or COVID-19 broke out 2 months later. We were lucky to go and experience the trip with such great people. We made lots of friends from Nicole’s side of the family and it’s always a good time with Bobby.
